NO PARKING AT CHURCH, THURS-FRI AUGUST 1st-2nd: Parking lot updates

Our parking lot will be resealed and re-striped next Thursday and Friday, August 1st-2nd. There will be no parking at the church those days. Please plan accordingly – thanks!

Can You Paint, *OR* Prep?

The Upper Room (the Choir Room / PB’s Office) is looking great! The next step in the “pilgrimage of renewal” for our building is to paint Pastor Clark’s Office and the Youth Room. We would like to have this done before Rally Day, so we hope to coordinate a weekend in August among volunteers. Please email PC (adamclarknd@gmail.com), or see him after worship Sunday, if you could join either of the following two, key teams:

PREP TEAM (no skill needed), Day 1: prep is a big part of painting. This team will wipe down walls, put down painter’s tape and plastic, and take other key steps to prepare.

CUT-IN PAINTERS TEAM, Day 2: ideally, 4-8 skilled volunteers who can “cut in” (do the brush work at the edges of each wall). We can work simultaneously and get done fast!

Sabbatical for Pastor Borger and Family: What Does This Mean?

Pastor Clark is back, and Pastor Borger and family are now on sabbatical. Here is how Pastor Borger has chosen to structure his respite, and how we are asked to respond:

  1. Pastor Borger is dividing his sabbatical into two “chunks.” The first is July 22nd-Sept. 15th. He will return briefly Sept. 16-29. During worship on Sunday, September 29th, our District President, the Rev. Dr. Rick Stuckwisch, will install both pastors in their new Calls. Pastor Borger then will continue his sabbatical from Oct. 1 to Nov. 16. He will return to active duty in his new Associate Call on Sunday, Nov. 17th.
  2. During this time, the Borgers may occasionally attend worship at St. Peter. If they do, you are welcome to speak to them as you would any other member. However, please refrain from sharing any pastoral concerns or burdens with Pastor.
  3. More generally, during this time, please give the Borgers space and privacy to rest and grow with one another (as you did with PC), and please direct ALL pastoral needs, questions, or concerns only to Pastor Clark. He is happy to hear from you by call or text at 574-323-0654, or by email at adamclarknd@gmail.com.

God’s blessings on Pastor Borger and family for rest and renewal, and on St. Peter, as we continue to live connected and build on all that has gone before (see next announcement)!

Save the Date: Sunday, Sept 8th: Rally Day and Pilgrimage Potluck

Instead of a potluck in August (as tentatively planned), we will enjoy our Pilgrimage Potluck as part of our Fall Kick-off on Rally Day, Sept 8th. As promised, this will enable us to use our pilgrimages as a springboard into the next exciting chapter in BIOMEN SYNDESMOI (living connected) here at St. Peter.

Rally Day and Fall Adult Education Hour: Spiritual and Ecumenical Pilgrimage

On Rally Day, Pastor Clark and several other members will share a bit about their pilgrimages. But Fall Sunday Adult Education also will feature more opportunities to share. So please be sure to submit your Connection Stories if you haven’t already! (see below)

One big theme this fall: our relationship as Confessional Lutherans to the wider Body of Christ. What direction do we find in Scripture about these identities? What can we learn from others? What are our distinctive commitments as Lutherans, and how can they contribute to the whole Church? How can we connect with believers of all stripes and yet be faithful to our key convictions? Pastor Clark will share from his experiences but also invite you to share from yours.

WoSP Christmas in August!

We are thinking ahead and working on making new chrismons out of Braille paper to use during Christmas for our tree. Ninette Deliyannides will provide all supplies and paper. Anyone age 12 and over (not just Women of St. Peter) is welcome to join for this work session, 10am-noon, at the church. Questions? See Ninette!

Thanks – Family Game Night was a great success!

A great time and much living connected was enjoyed by all. Keep your eyes open for more opportunities to join in the next one!

St. Peter Pilgrimages & Renewal
(Lilly Grant)

Did you know … 43 of you have shared stories about your pilgrimage experience so far? This is great!

Thanks so much for taking a couple of minutes to tell about your experience by completing the brief Connection Stories form, using the paper form on the slat wall or the online form via the Renewal tab on the SPLC website. Scroll down to the blue bar that says Local Pilgrimage: Connection Stories. Paper forms may be placed in the clear box by the slat wall.

Remember: Each person participating in a pilgrimage is asked to respond to three brief questions on the form. And, don’t forget to submit a photo from your pilgrimage to Renee Peggs at office@splcm.org. Photos and stories will be shared at a potluck gathering on Rally Day, September 8. More details to follow!

Ministry Updates and Opportunities

Sunday Servants Gather Before Worship

With the summer worship schedule in place, all who help lead the Divine Service gather promptly at 8:50am to take 3 minutes to prepare their hearts and minds for worship. If you are serving as altar guild, usher, crucifer/acolyte, lector, greeter, tech person, elder, musician/dancer, doorkeeper or other HEART member, etc. on a particular Sunday, please come together for quick introductions and short prayer led by Deaconess Amy Smessaert. Together, we will ask God to bless our service to God’s people as we live connected in spiritual formation in Christ. All confirmands and parents are encouraged to participate, whether or not you are serving on that Sunday.

Pick Your Next Usher Date!

Thanks to everyone who has served as an usher or part of an usher team. It’s time to pick another date to serve! Please sign up on the Sunday Servants sheet on the slat wall. You can see the specific list of duties, with video demos, here. A veteran usher will assist you and teach you one extra duty beyond communion each time you serve.
