Advent Preparations for Christmas

New Advent Devotions are now available…

The birth of Jesus was the beginning of his ongoing presence in our world as both God and man. He is born in us spiritually even as he was born physically from Mary. He comes to inhabit our lives. By his word, he blesses, renews, guides and empowers us so that it’s no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us. Each day in Advent, we will discover anew how his grace enriches our existence.

Advent Tree

Please join us Saturday November 26 at 9am at the tree farm and church to cut and erect the Advent Christmas Tree. Please see John Schroeder for more information.

Advent by Candlelight

Ladies! Please plan to attend Advent by Candlelight on Sunday, December 4 at 6pm. If you’ve already signed up, think about someone you might ask to join you: your daughter, mother, sister, friend, someone from work. Advent is frequently overlooked, especially by “the world,” in the rush of commercial Christmas. This is a lovely opportunity to BIOMEN SYNDESMOI and take time to ready ourselves for coming close to the mystery of the Incarnation. Ask the Lord for wisdom and courage to invite someone to come with you, and expect Him to equip you! Reach out to Renee Peggs (peggs.renee@pm.me or 574-742-0010) if you have any questions.

We are also in need of one more lady to help with decorating. Nothing elaborate or time-consuming this year, but we also don’t want it falling to just one person. Indicate your willingness on the sheet by the slat wall or see Renee.

Altar Poinsettias

This year we will be taking monetary donations for the altar poinsettias. Donation can be made now through Dec. 11. The collection box is located on the table by the slot wall.

If you should have any questions please see Annette Winterrowd.

Time to bake, bake, bake and share your favorite delicacy delights with the community. The Women of St. Peter will be having their annual cookie sale on Dec. 10: 9am-Noon. They are in need of cookies and baked goods that you have made.  Please bring your donated cookies to the church on Dec. 9. Last years donations made $800 for missions and women’s projects. Lets see if we can keep the momentum going. See Jill Reedstrom or Paula Ryan for any questions or more information. Let’s get baking….

Christmas Decorating – Your help is needed to prepare the Sanctuary for the Nativity of Our Lord

St. Peter is in need of eager elves to help decorate the sanctuary and church for Christmas.
• When? – Sunday, December 18th after Worship
• What? – Help with garland & wreath decorating, garland & wreath hanging, tree trimming and tree lighting.
• Commitment? – Many elves make light work but plan on 1.5 – 2 hours of work.
• Food? – Lunch will be served to the elves helping.
If you are able to help, please sign up to on the convenient “Elf Help Board” by the slot wall.

Join RLA Shoe Collection

Please continue to bring in your “gently worn, used, and new” shoes to pass along to folks in developing countries. The goal is to collect 2,500 pairs of shoes. So far, SPLC has collected around 90 pairs. Please ask your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers for donations, too!
*”Gently worn means no holes, no separation of sole, something you would pass on or wear yourself.”

If you need someone to pick up your shoes or bring them into church please see Krista Hunt.

38th Annual Advent/Christmas Service In the German Language

The 38th Annual “Weihnachts Vesper” (a Christmas Service in German Language) will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 27th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, in South Bend. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Contact St. Paul church office at 574-271-1050 for more information.

Bring your coffee and pray – for Pastor Clark, St. Peter, and the Church

Gather with Deaconess Amy Smessaert at 10 a.m. on Sundays for a brief time of prayer for Pastor Clark as he prepares a series of theses on questions of race, economics, and gender that have arisen in our life together, in society, and as the Church. We will pray for 6-8 minutes prior to worship. Meet in the south end of the sanctuary, by the stairwell. Copies of the prayer will be provided.

Pick Your Next Usher Date!

Thanks to everyone who has served as an usher or usher team so far this fall. It is time to pick another date to serve! Please sign-up on the Sunday Servants sheet on the slat wall. You can see the specific list duties, with video demos, here. A veteran usher will be there to assist you and will teach you one extra duty beyond communion each time you serve.

Crucifer: Pick a Date to Carry the Cross!

We also invite anyone interested and able to carry the Cross in the opening hymn. Sign-up on the Sunday Servants sheet in the Narthex and watch this video to prepare.
