Sunday Servants Gather Before Worship

All who help lead the Divine Service will gather by the font at 10 a.m. to prepare their hearts and minds for worship. If you are serving as altar guild, usher, crucifer/acolyte, lector, greeter, tech person, elder, musician/dancer, doorkeeper or other HEART member, etc. on a particular Sunday, please come together for 5-ish minutes of introduction, reflection, and prayer led by Deaconess Amy Smessaert. Together, we will ask God to bless our service to God’s people as we live connected in spiritual formation in Christ. All confirmands and parents are encouraged to participate, whether or not you are serving on that Sunday.

Mangelsdorf Hymn-Sing and Reception in Celebration of Marriage: Sign Up
Sunday, Oct 22, 4pmNote Time Change!

In honor of their 60th Anniversary, Pastor Ken and Anne Mangelsdorf are hosting a Hymn Sing in celebration of God’s gift of marriage to them and to us all. Jerry Kuker will be the featured organist, and Emily Ruch will direct the St. Peter Choir in leading all of us in worship. In addition to singing together, we will hear short readings from Scripture and from theologians like Martin Luther and C.S. Lewis. The Hymn Sing will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.

Instead of material gifts, the Mangelsdorfs request your presence, your song, and your joy! If you can join us, please sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49ACAB29ABF5C16-mangelsdorf

Thank you for supporting our CROP Hunger Walk Fundraiser – Donations Still Accepted

Last Sunday, we once again participated in the annual St. Joseph County CROP Hunger Walk, organized by Zion Church in South Bend on behalf of Christian World Services (CWS). 13 of our members come out to represent St. Peter Lutheran Church. To date we have raised $470 in donations, which will support projects addressing hunger and food insecurity, lack of clean water, and other issues defining poverty in our community and across the globe.
25% of all the funds raised stay with local organizations, including Broadway Christian Parish UMC Food Ministries, Christian Community Pantry of Walkerton, Sunnyside Presbyterian Church Food Pantry and United Religious Community Advocacy Center.

If you would still like to contribute, please click here to donate online or give your check (made out to “CWS/CROP”) or cash to Halrun Luppes. Thank you for all your support!

Cheeseballs!

Please place your cheeseball orders NOW! Forms are under the slat wall. Each cheeseball is $8; indicate nuts or without nuts. There will not be extra cheeseballs available; only what is ordered will be made, so plan accordingly. All orders are due October 22.

Sign up under the slat wall to HELP make the cheeseballs. Tuesday, October 24th we begin at 3pm and it is very helpful to have MEN join us to help with all that mixing. Thursday, October 26th we begin at 5:30pm for wrapping. See Paula Ryan or Jill Reedstrom with questions.

Ministry Updates and Opportunities

Sunday Morning Adult Study: Live Connected in Spiritual Formation – The Book of Ruth

Pastor Borger is teaching and leading discussion on the Book of Ruth through the end of October. How do we see God forming the character and relationships of everyone in this narrative? How might this help form our character and relationships as we “live connected?” How does this connect with our overall story in Israel and in Christ?
When: Sundays, 9am | Where: Church Fellowship Hall

Friday Night Bible Study

The FNBS meets TONIGHT, October 6, at 6:30pm for dinner, followed by study beginning at 7pm. This year’s focus is Chad Bird’s book, Limping with God: Jacob and the Old Testament Guide to Messy Discipleship. Anyone is welcome to join; no previous bible study experience needed!

Jacob seems to be anything but a model disciple. And yet he is also “Israel,” the namesake of the Old Testament community of God, chosen and blessed. In Jacob’s life we see our lives, our struggles, our failures…but most especially, the God who loves us and chooses us as his own. Come explore his story as we learn more together about ourselves and about the God of Israel, who is with us and for us in Jesus the Messiah.

Book: Check it out or order here (the church will cover the cost if needed)
Time: Meal, 6:30pm | Study 7-8:30pm
Dates: 1st and 3rd Fridays [Oct 6 and 20, Nov 3 and 17]
Where: Fellowship Hall
Sign-up: Please contact either John Schroeder (jschroeind@aol.com) or Mike Fonck (mfonck@comcast.net) to let them know you’re interested.

Dunes Hospice Community Grief Share: 3:30-4:30pm Second Monday of Each Month

St. Peter hosts this group for people journeying together through grief after the loss of a loved one. The regular leaders are Chaplain Matt Barker and a social worker, both from Dunes Hospice. But importantly, the loved one you lost does not need to have been in hospice for you to participate. The group is free and open to the public. Before attending, please contact Chaplain Barker at mbarker@duneshospicellc.com.
Upcoming Dates: Oct 9, Nov 13, Dec 11, Jan 8, Feb 12, Mar 11, Apr 8, May 13
