The News

St. Peter Spirit Wear is in!

If you ordered Spirit Wear, pick it up from the “buffet” in the Sunday School wing.

Spirit Wear Sunday: Next Sunday, October 29th, Reformation Day!

Celebrate St. Peter and our Lutheran heritage by wearing your Spirit Wear to church next Sunday, October 29th for Reformation Sunday!

THIS SUNDAY! Hymn-Sing at 4pm

In honor of their 60th Anniversary, Pastor Ken and Anne Mangelsdorf are hosting a Hymn Sing celebrating God’s gift of marriage to them and to us all. Jerry Kuker will be the featured organist, and Emily Ruch will direct the St. Peter Choir in leading all of us in worship. In addition to singing together, we will hear short readings from Scripture and from theologians like Martin Luther and C.S. Lewis. The Hymn Sing will be followed by a reception.

Instead of material gifts, the Mangelsdorfs request your presence, your song, and your joy! If you can join us, please sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49ACAB29ABF5C16-mangelsdorf

Cheeseballs! Orders due This Sunday; Sign Up to Help Next Week

Please place your cheeseball orders NOW! Forms are under the slat wall. Each cheeseball is $8; indicate nuts or without nuts. There will not be extra cheeseballs available; only what is ordered will be made, so plan accordingly. All orders are due THIS SUNDAY, October 22.

Sign up under the slat wall to HELP make the cheeseballs. Tuesday, October 24th we begin at 3pm and it is very helpful to have MEN join us to help with all that mixing. Thursday, October 26th we begin at 5:30pm for wrapping. See Paula Ryan or Jill Reedstrom with questions.

Sunday Servants Gather Before Worship

All who help lead the Divine Service will gather by the font at 10 a.m. to prepare their hearts and minds for worship. If you are serving as altar guild, usher, crucifer/acolyte, lector, greeter, tech person, elder, musician/dancer, doorkeeper or other HEART member, etc. on a particular Sunday, please come together for 5-ish minutes of introduction, reflection, and prayer led by Deaconess Amy Smessaert. Together, we will ask God to bless our service to God’s people as we live connected in spiritual formation in Christ. All confirmands and parents are encouraged to participate, whether or not you are serving on that Sunday.

Emmaus Lutheran in South Bend celebrates 100 years — The Word of the Lord Endures Forever. Join them Sunday, October 29 at 3pm to sing a hundred hymns in celebration of a hundred years of faithful ministry. 929 Milton St., 46613

Ministry Updates and Opportunities

Sunday Morning Adult Study: Live Connected in Spiritual Formation – The Book of Ruth

Pastor Borger is teaching and leading discussion on the Book of Ruth. How do we see God forming the character and relationships of everyone in this narrative? How might this help form our character and relationships as we “live connected?” How does this connect with our overall story in Israel and in Christ?
When: Sundays, 9am | Where: Church Fellowship Hall

Friday Night Bible Study

The FNBS meets next TONIGHT, October 20 at 6:30pm for dinner, followed by study beginning at 7pm. This year’s focus is Chad Bird’s book, Limping with God: Jacob and the Old Testament Guide to Messy Discipleship. Anyone is welcome to join; no previous bible study experience needed!

Jacob seems to be anything but a model disciple. And yet he is also “Israel,” the namesake of the Old Testament community of God, chosen and blessed. In Jacob’s life we see our lives, our struggles, our failures…but most especially, the God who loves us and chooses us as his own. Come explore Jacob’s story as we learn more together about ourselves and about the God of Israel, who is with us and for us in Jesus the Messiah.

Book: Check it out or order here (the church will cover the cost if needed)
Time: Meal, 6:30pm | Study 7-8:30pm
Dates: 1st and 3rd Fridays [Oct 20, Nov 3 and 17]
Where: Fellowship Hall
Sign-up: Please contact either John Schroeder (jschroeind@aol.com) or Mike Fonck (mfonck@comcast.net) to let them know you’re interested.

Upcoming Dates: Nov 13, Dec 11, Jan 8, Feb 12, Mar 11, Apr 8, May 13
