Sunday Morning Adult Study: Pilgrimage to Renewal

Do you feel like you could use a “refresh” in your life? 2024 is a “Year of Renewal” at St. Peter as we dovetail with Pastor Clark in the emphasis on “pilgrimage” for our Renewal Grant. In this study, we will search out the biblical definition of renewal, as well as God’s promises for renewal. We also will explore the theme of pilgrimage throughout Scripture (it’s there more than you think!) and Church history. And we’ll brainstorm about our own opportunities for “local pilgrimage,” financed by the Grant. Even if you do not usually come to bible study, you won’t want to miss this one!

This Week’s Topic: Christian Pilgrimages and OUR 2024 Opportunities for Funded Local Pilgrimages

New Thursday Morning Bible Study: Colossians

Paula Ryan will begin hosting a bible study on February 1, meeting each Thursday at 9am at the church. We will do a study of Colossians called The Mighty and the Mysterious. Books are $18 (let us know if that is an obstacle); we will order all the books together and then take money. Please indicate your interest by signing up on the sheet under the slat wall so we know how many to order. See Paula with questions!

College Care Packages

We have several students this year who will be looking forward to receiving care packages from “back home.” Please bring in items THIS WEEKEND such as cookies, chips, hot chocolate, popcorn, granola/breakfast bars, candy, nuts…  No liquids! All donations need to be dropped off in the bin under the slat wall no later than Sunday, January 21.

RLA Selected as National School of Choice: Join Us to Celebrate – Mon, Jan 22, 10am

National School Choice Week, in partnership with the Institute for Quality Education, has selected Resurrection Lutheran Academy as one of the two schools to represent Indiana. We gather on Monday, January 22 at 10 am to highlight the importance of Choice and its expansion, not just to RLA but to the wider community. Pastor Clark is serving as Emcee, and we will be featuring a few great speakers, highlighting local partners, and offering refreshments. As a valuable partner for our school and community, all members of St. Peter are invited to attend! Please RSVP by January 19th by clicking this link

Offering Envelopes/Year-End Reports

Envelopes for 2024 PLUS year-end contribution statements are now available on the tables by the slat wall! Please pick yours up! If you visit shut-ins, feel free to grab theirs as well and deliver with packets when you visit. Any questions, please email Cindy Matthews (she will be traveling a LOT coming up, so email is the best way to get a response).

MAC Food Pantry

We received a card from the food pantry saying: “Thank you for your generous gifts to MAC Food Pantry, which enable us to serve those in need in our community. It is because of faithful servants like your church which keeps the pantry serving. The Lord bless you and continue to pour out his goodness in your life.”

But please note: most of what is donated to the food pantry each week comes from one SPLC household. We are asking for MORE help from MORE folks in two ways.

  • Please consider getting an item or two for the food pantry each week when you do your normal grocery shopping. You do NOT need to know what the specific pantry needs are: they accept whatever is donated as long as it’s non-perishable and within date.
  • We’d love to start handing out reminder slips again on Sundays if we had a few folks willing to volunteer to do this. Please contact Pastor Clark (adamclarknd@gmail.com) with interest. Thank you so much for helping us support those in our community with food needs.

Public Service Announcement

Have you heard about the new Indiana state law adopted by St. Joseph County that offers a homestead credit for homeowners over age 55? It will prevent property taxes from rising more than 2% annually. Check out www.sjcindiana.com/2302/auditor for more information.

Ministry Updates and Opportunities

Sunday Servants Gather Before Worship

All who help lead the Divine Service will gather for 5 minutes by the font at 10 a.m. to prepare their hearts and minds for worship. If you are serving as altar guild, usher, crucifer/acolyte, lector, greeter, tech person, elder, musician/dancer, doorkeeper or other HEART member, etc. on a particular Sunday, please come together for quick introductions and short prayer led by Deaconess Amy Smessaert. Together, we will ask God to bless our service to God’s people as we live connected in spiritual formation in Christ. All confirmands and parents are encouraged to participate, whether or not you are serving on that Sunday.

Friday Night Bible Study

The FNBS next meets TONIGHT, January 19 at 6:30pm for dinner, followed by study beginning at 7pm. This year’s focus is Chad Bird’s book, Limping with God: Jacob and the Old Testament Guide to Messy Discipleship. Anyone is welcome to join; no previous bible study experience needed!

Jacob seems to be anything but a model disciple. And yet he is also “Israel,” the namesake of the Old Testament community of God, chosen and blessed. In Jacob’s life we see our lives, our struggles, our failures…but most especially, the God who loves us and chooses us as his own. Come explore Jacob’s story as we learn more together about ourselves and about the God of Israel, who is with us and for us in Jesus the Messiah.
